Seventh Generation’s All Purpose Cleaner, Free & Clear is the best pick for a home with pets. The reason is what its label says and the other two don’t. The bottle is labeled “Safe For Cleaning around Kids and Pets,” and it is the only one of the three pages here that makes a statement about use around pets rather than a caution. ATTITUDE’s All-Purpose Cleaner comes second, with a FAQ answer on the question. Mrs. Meyer’s Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner is here for what its label says, which is to keep it out of reach of children and pets and nothing more. Every one of those is the manufacturer’s own words, and none of them is a Runlow verdict.

What do these pages actually say about pets?
Three things, of three different strengths, and the order is this guide’s ranking.
Seventh Generation’s page shows the label, which reads “Safe For Cleaning around Kids and Pets.” The page states nothing further about pets. ATTITUDE’s page answers the question in its FAQ. Asked whether the cleaner is safe to use in homes with children and pets, the manufacturer says it “is formulated for regular household use with careful attention to ingredient selection” and that “like any cleaning product, it should be used as directed and kept out of reach of children.” Mrs. Meyer’s page shows the label caution, “Keep out of reach of children and pets,” and says nothing else about pets.
A label statement about use outranks a FAQ answer, and a FAQ answer outranks a caution alone. That is the whole of the method. Two other all-purpose cleaners in Runlow’s records, ECOS Parsley and Method Pink Grapefruit, have pages that say nothing about pets either way, read again on October 5, 2026. Both are picks in Best Multi-Surface Cleaner, where the question is surfaces rather than animals, and neither is here.
Is a certification a pet statement?
No page here presents one as such. Each record below lists the certifications its manufacturer claims, with the issuer linked, and what each program actually covers is its own question. The Safer Choice label, which Seventh Generation claims for this cleaner, is explained in What the EPA Safer Choice Label Actually Certifies. What the three pages do, consistently, is make their pet statement in their own words, next to the label or in a FAQ, with no certification attached to it. So this guide ranks on those words and on nothing else.
Our pick: Seventh Generation All Purpose Cleaner, Free & Clear
Seventh Generation
Seventh Generation All Purpose Cleaner, Free & Clear
The label is the reason. “Safe For Cleaning around Kids and Pets” is a statement about using the product with animals in the house, and it is the only such statement on the three pages. The same label reads “Fragrance Free,” and the manufacturer’s FAQ says the Free & Clear versions are unscented. The page also carries the longest list of named surfaces of the three, which the compatibility block below renders in full.

One caveat. “Around” is the whole statement. The page gives no guidance beyond those words, nothing about a surface a pet eats from or licks, and nothing about a specific animal. This guide reports the label and stops where the label stops.
Runner-up: ATTITUDE All-Purpose Cleaner, Citrus Zest
ATTITUDE
ATTITUDE All-Purpose Cleaner, Citrus Zest
ATTITUDE is the one brand of the three that answers the pet question directly, in a FAQ written for it. The answer is careful. The cleaner “is formulated for regular household use with careful attention to ingredient selection,” and “like any cleaning product, it should be used as directed and kept out of reach of children.” That is an answer about how the product is made and how to use it, not a label claim about pets, which is why it sits second.

It is scented. Citrus Zest lists “Fragrance (Parfum)” at the end of its ingredient list with three named terpene components before it, and the manufacturer says the list may change and refers to the packaging. A household that wants no fragrance has the pick above.
Know before you buy: Mrs. Meyer’s Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner, Rose
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Multi-Surface Everyday Cleaner, Rose
Mrs. Meyer’s page addresses pets in exactly one place, the label caution: “Keep out of reach of children and pets.” There is no statement about use around them, in either direction. It is in this guide because its page mentions pets at all, and it is last because a caution is not a claim. A reader who wants a page that says something about using the cleaner with animals in the house has the two above.

The Rose scent is listed with four named fragrance allergens and two essential oils, and the ingredient list ends “Contains Fragrance Allergens.” The page doesn’t connect that to pets, and neither does this guide.
How we researched this
Every fact in this guide comes from each brand’s own website, read on the date each product record shows, and the ECOS and Method pages were read again on October 5, 2026 for any pet statement. Nothing was retrieved from a retailer listing. The pet statements are quoted from each manufacturer and are the manufacturer’s own; Runlow makes no claim of its own about any product’s safety around an animal, and nothing here is veterinary advice. Runlow has not tested any of these cleaners. No prices are shown. Every retailer link goes to a search results page for the exact product, not a specific listing, so it stays accurate regardless of what’s currently in stock.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there a certification for "pet safe" cleaning products?
- None of the three pages here presents one. The certifications these products claim are listed on each record below with a link to the issuer, and none of the three pages connects any of them to pets. A pet statement on these pages is the manufacturer's own words, and this guide ranks on those words.
- Does "safe for cleaning around pets" mean a pet can lick the surface?
- The label doesn't say, and neither do we. Seventh Generation's page carries the phrase and states no further pet guidance. Every page here says to use the product as directed, and two of the three say to keep it out of reach. A question about a specific animal is a question for a veterinarian.
- Which of these cleaners is fragrance-free?
- Seventh Generation's Free & Clear is labeled fragrance free, per its page. ATTITUDE's Citrus Zest and Mrs. Meyer's Rose are both scented, and each lists its fragrance components on the page, which the records below carry. None of the three pages connects scent to pets either way.
